President Trump Invites Families of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The president explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Attendees gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Policy Adjustments
Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event led the government to pause asylum applications and cease granting visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” he addressed the audience at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
