The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike shortly after a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “harming young minds” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
During an event for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his viewpoint on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators very quickly after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this negative culture.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his public life on dog-whistle politics and now, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
The party, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
Nonetheless, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with schooling – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and millions of days of lost learning for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this tonight and I will follow through.”
The college, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to all who wish to learn.”
