Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The previous series concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
The drama launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for further series.
However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
