Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday following the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the team - are among the options to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a potential hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who played more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a leading candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they start the search of hiring a fresh manager.

O'Neil is additionally emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
