Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his future after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with results this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
