After multiple episodes of tension, schemes and backstabbing, Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling finale
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article reveals key moments from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Over the course of the show, audiences saw murders, double-crosses, serious side-eye, and an unforgettable incident that pierced all tension.
However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
From nineteen participants, only five remained: Deceivers and loyal players facing off for the prize.
Before long, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the final players.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr emerged as the champion, in a surprising outcome that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he declared, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Social media quickly erupted with this development. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," wrote a viewer.
"There could not have been a better conclusion," stated another, while a third described it as "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, a cancer charity, gets to keep all the prize money, with the total amount amounting to £87,500.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the series.
But his win still left the nation in shock, according to industry observers.
"The thought of him, of all people, executing an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him keeping a straight face through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have appeared to the morning meal in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. His humor distracted me," a player said.
"The majority didn't target him because how does one vote for a person so loveable?" questioned another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his experience with the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would be successful a second time!"
The final installment was extended to 70 minutes on television. It had an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs knew who'd make it at the breakfast table.
There was some very uplifting, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as we recapped some moments from each of the finalists' experience in the game.
True to form, Alan Carr provided unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I began this game as something of an anxious mess. I've betrayed close allies to save myself, I've eliminated beloved figures in plain sight. Apparently I'm a better liar and player than I believed."
Meanwhile, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for a national team", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
Early on of the finale, several players appeared to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the castle, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal resembling a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got out-jacketted by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Next up was the challenge, with the remaining contestants boarding a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task involved destroying images of former contestants. Spare a thought for one participant who managed to get hit in the head multiple times by the lid of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, it was time for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors made a pact in advance, vowing to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," stated one, while their partner just giggled.
However, one did stick to their agreement. But, having slipped unnoticed for the majority of the competition, the other still received the majority elimination votes.
The last deceiver looked like to be experiencing a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."
Social media and viewers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against that player to be eliminated. An endearing deceiver," commented an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," wrote a different viewer.
But there was little opportunity to focus on their elimination. Soon, the game reached the endgame - which was the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players gathered around the fire pit. And the alliance broke down, precisely when it mattered the most, in a truly WTF moment.
One contestant was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their ally, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back at the final moment like that," said the eliminated player. Subsequently, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player calls the other as a traitor.
Finally, just three players were still competing: the final trio.
One player, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and everything depended on the third, who made the identical choice - which meant that the deceiver emerged victorious.
According to commentators, the moment where the other players comforted the winner was "beautiful TV". "I anticipate it will be in the running for memorable moment at next year's awards," they commented.
Fortunately, the champion soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and now I stand a winner," he said.
He also made light of the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by reaching over the presenter in the final scene and touching her cheek.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, scheming and the occasional surprising incidents may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. But it really did all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
