Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
