A Mountain of Japanese Animation News Arrived During the Festive Season
The winter break provide a plethora of activities much better than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, feasting on delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to avoid yelling at loved ones. I hope you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many exciting developments emerged over the festive period, and should you didn't see a few, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)
Perhaps the biggest revelation, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a positive development. But, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now the community is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio renowned for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not been disclosed yet.
